BATTERY MONITORING SYSTEM

In a power critical environment it is crucial to know the continuous state of health of the lead acid batteries supporting the critical load daily. Our battery monitoring system ensures that these critical batteries are in a good state of health and will function according to design when required. The system has been designed for daily monitoring of the conditions of the batteries. By avoiding the time consuming and potentially dangerous manual method of testing individual batteries, the system dramatically increases the likelihood of identifying a potential failure long before it becomes a power continuity problem.

Battery performance degrades with age. Unforeseen problems such as corrosion in the connections, heat and improper maintenance might cause the battery voltage to drop under load just when it’s really needed. The failure of one battery can cause the entire system to fail and will also cause deterioration of other batteries.

The optimum battery monitoring solution for a typical UPS installation would be a system permanently wired into the battery and capable of measuring at least the voltage and ohmic value. It should look at voltage and ohmic value daily so you get early warning of impending failure.

The more you know about your batteries, and the more detailed and current that information is, the better is your chances of averting disaster.

Below is our recommended criteria for a battery monitoring system:

  • Individual cell/jar/monoblock voltage during float.
  • Individual cell/jar/monoblock voltage during discharge.
  • Total string voltage.
  • Individual cell ohmic value (including inter-cell link resistance).
  • Discharge current.
  • Charge current.
  • Individual cell temperature.
  • Ambient temperature.
  • 24 x 7 monitoring
